San Diego Barbell & Strength Gym
TRAIN.
LIFT.
REPEAT.
Real barbells, real coaching, real iron. One room, calibrated plates, and people who actually train. No mirrors-and-smoothies fluff, no machines you have to wait twenty minutes for. Just the work.
Programming
Three ways to train.
Whether you want a coach on every rep, a written plan to run yourself, or just the keys to an open floor — pick the lane that fits how you train. You can move between them as you go.
-
Coached strength
Barbell Club
Small-group coached sessions built around the squat, bench, deadlift, and press. A coach is on the floor watching every rep, fixing positions, and calling loads. Best if you want eyes on your technique.
- Coach on the floor every session
- Hands-on technique correction
- Loads programmed for you on the day
- Capped group size — no crowding
-
Periodized training
Strength Program
A written, periodized strength plan in the 5/3/1 tradition — percentage-based main lifts, planned progression, and accessory work that supports the big three. You run it on your schedule; we adjust it monthly.
- Periodized percentage-based plan
- Main lifts with planned progression
- Accessory work that actually carries over
- Monthly check-in and reset
-
Platform access
Open Gym
Fob access to every platform, rack, and bar in the building, around the clock. Come in at 5 am or 9 pm and train your own way. No reservations for racks, no machine queues. Just open iron when you want it.
- 24/7 fob access to the floor
- Every platform, rack, and bar
- Train on your own schedule
- No rack reservations, no queues
The PR Board
The board fills up with real lifts.
Every top set on this board belongs to a member who logged it on our platforms. We don't pad it with numbers that never happened.

The gym
One room. Built for lifting.
No class-factory rotation, no rows of cardio screens, no waiting on a machine. IRONHOUSE is a single open floor of platforms and racks. You walk in, chalk up, and train. Here's what's on the floor:
- Competition lifting platforms
- Calibrated plates
- Competition-spec barbells
- Monolift
- GHD units
- Dumbbells to 150 lb
- Power racks and combo racks
- Chalk bowls — yes, real chalk

Coaching
Coaches who watch every rep.
No app-only programs sold off a screen. Our coaches are on the floor, putting hands on the bar and eyes on your positions.
Marcus Hale
Head coach
USAW Level 1 · Starting-strength method
I coach the barbell lifts the way they were meant to be coached — position first, load second. My job on the floor is to watch every rep, catch the breakdown before it becomes a habit, and put the right weight on the bar today. I don't sell programs that look impressive on paper. I teach people to get strong and stay healthy doing it.
Dana Ruiz
Strength coach
USAW Level 1 · Programming and periodization
I write the periodized plans and run our intake assessments. I came up under a barbell-first coaching tradition, and I program the same way: simple main lifts, honest progression, accessories chosen because they carry over — not because they fill a sheet. New lifters get the most of my attention. Everybody starts somewhere.
